VIETNAM: FOREVER A MEMORY
By: Rose Marie Cook Whitman

Soldiers of misfortune destined to haunt this land,
With memories of a time that destroyed with the touch of a hand.

Many nights spent in meaningless thought,
of the priceless things in which they sought.

Trapped in a place where time stood still,
Searching for the patience, the courage, the will.

For each moment was treasured to be their last,
Hoping and praying the feeling would pass.

So many days spent longing for home,
Their restless minds would forever roam.

As the roar like thunder filled their hearts,
The reality of the horror tore them apart.

The guilt they carried for trying to survive,
Their wandering souls would never revive.

Try to understand these men who fought,
Their piece of mind would always be sought.

In the memories of the men who fought in this war,
There are days in their minds they would choose to ignore.

Their words and their actions they tried to defend,
The hundreds of reasons why they fought to the end.

Our God is a witness at the time of this war
So the souls of these men are destined to soar.
